Avoiding Threats To Youthful Skin – Part 5

Alcohol-CollageWhile an occasional glass of red wine can confer some health benefits for a number of reasons, moderation is key.  As a diuretic, alcohol causes the body to lose water quickly and makes the skin more prone to fine lines and wrinkles.

To add insult to injury, alcohol causes small blood vessels in the skin to widen, allowing more blood to flow close to the skin’s surface.  This produces a flushed skin color and a feeling of warmth, which can lead to broken capillaries on the face.

Like smoking, alcohol ages the skin by robbing the body of oxygen and vitamin C. Dullness, enlarged pores, discoloration, sagging and lack of resilience are some of the short-term and long-term effects of alcohol on the skin.

Also like smoking, alcohol use takes a particularly heavy toll on women, which is why lower levels of drinking are recommended for women than for men.  Women are at greater risk than men for developing alcohol-related problems.

Too much alcohol is highly destructive. Because alcohol alters blood flow to the skin, it gives an unhealthy appearance that can last for days. Thus, the moment you stop drinking is the moment your skin and internal organs begin to regain youthful qualities.

  1. In order to slow down or stop the aging process and enjoy perfect health your intra and extra cellular fluids, and surface membranes must be kept youthful, and if damaged they must be repaired.

  2. You need to make sure that you moisturize your skin so that your chances for wrinkles are lower at a young age. As we get older you will definitely get wrinkles. The only thing that we can do is to try and slow down the process and minimize the damage.
