Removing Wrinkles: Do Wrinkle Creams Work?
You’ve thought about it, you’ve asked yourself, you’ve asked others, you’ve asked Google, you’ve asked clerks & cashiers, and now you want an answer to that oh-so important question do wrinkle creams work? In short, yes they do! However, that answer does not cover every wrinkle remover cream on the market. As a matter of fact, you’d be lucky if it refers to half of them!
You heard correctly they work, but they don’t all work. In all honesty, many of them are just cheap knock-offs created by greedy companies trying to make a buck. And, unfortunately for you, those cheap knock-offs make it hard to find reliable anti wrinkle creams because they crowd the market like an elephant crowds a room.
However, if you do happen to find a quality wrinkle remover cream (don’t hold your breath — it could take awhile), you’ll see for yourself just how effective it can be.
An important thing to remember is that each wrinkle removing cream works in it’s own way. They won’t all provide the same results, nor will they provide results within the same time frame. Anti aging wrinkle cream, for example, can take awhile to start producing results for a user. Although the cream will start working from the second it is applied, it takes quite a bit of time for the human eye to see what has been accomplished.
On the flip side, if you were to use instant anti-wrinkle cream, which typically starts working within minutes, you’d get fast wrinkle removal at the cost of longevity. In this case (as well as with most others), you’d have to choose between “fast & short term” or “slow & long term.”
The task of combing through a sea of “crappy” wrinkle removal creams may seem a bit daunting, but with a little information & an ounce of determination, you won’t have any problem finding the cream you need.

Cheap Anti-Aging Treatments You Can Do At Home
If you watch television or read any magazines, you have no doubt seen advertisements for expensive anti aging treatments and creams. These products are great and they can work wonders on wrinkled skin, but they can be very expensive.
But in these tough economic times, it might not be possible to spend a lot of money on top-of-the-line creams or procedures. The good news is you don’t have too. Here are some of the best home remedies for wrinkles that won’t break the bank.
An Apple a Day Will Keep the Wrinkles Away
In a food processor or with a hand mixer, puree one large unpeeled apple. Be sure to remove the core and seeds first though. Granny Smith or another variety of green apple is the best choice for this facial. Once the apple has been pureed, add one tablespoon of milk. Slather the paste over neck and face and sit until it has dried. Rinse of the apple mixture with warm water.
The Sweetness of Honey
This at home remedy can be used for more than just wrinkles. It is also a very soothing remedy for wind or sunburned skin. Combine 2 tablespoons of honey to the juice of one large orange. Apply to skin and let sit for about 25 minutes. Wash with warm water and a clean cloth. Because of its effective soothing qualities, this is one of the top anti aging treatments to use at night.
Egg White and Lime
Using a mixer, whip one egg white until it forms stiff peaks. Add the juice of one small lime. Apply to wrinkled skin on your hands, face, and neck. Leave the facial treatment on for about 10 minutes. After washing your face with warm water, you will feel the instant effects of tightened skin.
Green Grapes
Of course, seedless grapes work best for this facial treatment. Who knew grapes could provide an all natural anti aging treatment? This is a very easy facial to use at home and is super effective for wrinkles. Simply crush some seedless grapes ” preferably green grapes ” and rub them into your skin. Leave on for about 20 minutes and remove. If you use this facial treatment once a day, it will greatly improve the look of your skin.
You Say Potato….
Potatoes are a great natural anti-aging product. This mask will help tighten and firm your skin and help diminish the look of wrinkles. Peel and coarsely grate 2 large potatoes. Apply the wet mixture to face and leave for just a few minutes. Leave it on for a few minutes. You will instantly feel the tightening effects on your skin. Use cold water to rinse.
If you are concerned about your skin and want to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, a great way to do it is to add one of these super simple and inexpensive anti aging treatments to your daily routine.

Never Underestimate the Value of Water
The skin on the face needs water to flourish. Dehydrated skin manifests itself in the form of wrinkles, bags and bulges. Sadly, dehydration is (yet another) part of the natural aging process. With age, the skin thins, with the effect that more moisture can evaporate through it. Already bearing the thinnest skin on the body, the face loses proportionately more moisture than its depth because it is also the most exposed part of the body. The thinning process goes on imperceptibly from one’s 30s but accelerates at menopause. One reason that men’s skin tends to age more slowly is that it is thicker to start with so retains more moisture and does not suffer from hormonal imbalance caused by menopause.
Most women respond to dehydration, somewhere in their 30s or 40s, by stocking up on moisturizers. Millions of dollars are spent every year on moisturizers in an effort to refresh thirsty skin. Yet, despite their name, they do not primarily put moisture into the skin. The epidermis can absorb relatively little and its capacity for absorption declines with age. Rather, moisturizers are designed to stop water from escaping.
As with food, so with water: the greatest benefits come from consuming rather than attempting to apply, by whatever means, to your face.

Smoking: The Second Leading Cause of Wrinkling
After the sun, smoking accelerates the normal aging process of your skin, contributing to wrinkles. It thins the skin by around 40%, so that water escapes more easily. Further damage is caused by the chemicals in cigarettes which break down the fibers in collagen and elasticity, mimicking and accelerating the normal aging process. Cigarette smoke also contains a substance called benzopyrene which destroys the vitamin C needed for collagen manufacturing and is replete with free radicals that degrade the skin. Smoking also constricts the tiny capillaries that feed the skin so that it is deprived of nutrients and oxygen.
And if that wasn’t enough, the facial expressions that smoking encourages - squinting of the eyes and puckering of the lips - stretch the most delicate skin on the face. All of these effects together can add 15 years to the age of your skin and you are five times more likely to have prominent wrinkles than non-smokers of the same age.
To combat the impact of smoking, “just say no.” If you have tried and failed, at least decrease your intake of cigarettes while increasing your intake of antioxidant nutrients and water to help counter some of the effects.

Why Our Skin Wrinkles
Skin is essentially made up of three layers. The epidermis or outermost layer helps our skin hold in moisture and oil. The dermis, which lies under the epidermis, makes up 90% of the thickness of our skin. The dermis contains collagen and elastin, two types of proteins that give our skin its strength and elasticity. The fat layer, which lies under the epidermis and dermis, serves to insulate and protect our inner organs and acts as a sort of cushion that helps keep the skin plump and smooth.
Our facial skin tends to show signs of aging faster than the skin on the rest of the body due to external factors, such as:
- sun exposure
- cigarette smoking (inhaled or secondhand)
- environmental toxins
- a low-nutrient diet, especially one lacking in vitamins A, C, E and folic acid
- excess alcohol consumption
- stress
- harsh soaps or detergent-based moisturizers
- sleep deprivation
The prime culprit: the sun. Wrinkles are formed as the sun breaks down collagen or the elasticity of the skin. Compounding the impact of the sun is the fact that with age (an internal factor) our body’s ability to repair itself slows down considerably. The skin around the eyes is particularly susceptible because it is thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face and is ground zero for sun damage. However, antioxidants like alpha lipoic acid can repair the skin, thus improving or erasing a wrinkle. This is good because with proper care, we can have wrinkle-free skin in our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.
