			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Face exercises are a natural alternative to restoring and maintaining a youthful appearance. Below are 12 tips to ensure you get the most out of your face exercise routine.</p>
<ol>
<li>Always make sure your face is relaxed before you start.</li>
<li>Clean your face and apply a light cream or oil, which helps to minimize any stretching of the skin.</li>
<li>Warm up (see below) the muscles before you begin to exercise them, particularly if you are exercising a &#8220;problem area&#8221; regularly.</li>
<li>While you are getting used to the exercises, place a mirror at head height so that you can comfortably follow the moves and watch your face as you exercise.</li>
<li>Never pull the skin: in resistance exercises, it is the muscle that must be moved, not the skin.</li>
<li>If you feel any pain, stop.  It probably means you are using the wrong muscles.</li>
<li>In exercises for muscles that mirror each other on either side of your face, exercise each side equally.  Symmetry is one of the fundamental principles of bodily beauty.</li>
<li>Exercise every day if possible: as with other forms of bodily toning, a little regularly is more effective than a bumper session once in a while.</li>
<li>Take time over each exercise: there is more benefit in doing one exercise properly than 10 in passing.</li>
<li>Relax between exercises.  The relaxation period should be as long as each exercise period.</li>
<li>Focus on your breathing and do not hold your breath.</li>
<li>Even if you feel tired or in a hurry, follow the &#8220;cool down&#8221; (see below) routine afterwards.</li>
</ol>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Warm up</span>.  Standing or sitting upright, extend the arms out to the sides at shoulder height.  Make 10 small circular movements forwards with the whole arm, rotating from the shoulder sockets.  Do the same moving the arms backwards.  Repeat three to five times each way, increasing the size of the circles with each repetition.  This helps loosen up the whole throat and neck area, improving blood flow.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Cool down</span>.  Repeat the procedure for the warm-up, then slump forward with your head almost touching your knees.  The whole upper body should be limp with your arms hanging like pendulums.  Breathe in and out deeply.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Muscles are fibrous masses of tissue that are built of protein.  Exercising muscles promotes the thickening and strengthening of muscle fibers.  To strengthen a muscle, there must be enough protein in the diet to ensure muscle growth.  The goal of exercise is to make the muscle move repeatedly until it tires and the tissue breaks down; after this point rest is essential so that the tissue can regenerate and grow bigger.  The more the muscle contracts, the more it grows.</p>
<p>With the right balance of exercise and rest, the muscle adapts to the demands placed on it by growing bigger and stronger.  Working a muscle to a heightened percentage of its capacity over a relatively short time will increase its size, strength and ability to contract.  By isolating various muscles in the face and performing a repeated range of movements, the muscles are strengthened, regenerated and enlarged.</p>

As a result, most people have weak muscles, which invariably sag.  And when the muscles sag, the skin attached to them also sags.  In fact, slack facial muscles are one of the main causes of sagging and drooping that most of us eventually experience.</p>
<p>Sagging is a result of the inevitable reduction in collagen and elastin – the skin’s connective fibers &#8211; as we age. These fibers give skin elasticity and suppleness, and there’s no way to restore these substances.  Shrinkage of diminished subcutaneous fat, or fat under the skin, also contributes to sagging.  Fat reserves under the skin grow smaller with age, and this can partially account for that mid-life &#8220;gaunt&#8221; look that hollows out an aging face.</p>
<p>Sagging produces under eye bags and loose folds of skin on the upper eyelids.  Lack of exercise makes muscle tissue thin and wasted.  Working isolated muscles with face exercises helps restore muscle tissue’s elasticity and tone, making it plump and renewing strength.  Like biceps, pectorals or abdominal muscles, facial muscles must be exercised in order to be firm, fit and strong.</p>

Many practitioners such as dermatologist and plastic surgeons believe that face exercises offer no benefits to the skin.  They suggest that there is no proof that facial exercises are effective in recontouring the face.  However, for those of you who were old enough to remember Jack Lalanne (don’t worry, I won’t ask your age as long as you don’t ask mine), he was a proponent of face exercises and integrated them into his workout routine.</p>
<p>Now at the age of 93, he still looks good.  His commitment to the program has withstood the test of time.According to Jack, just as a body builder develops his or her physique by isolating and working muscles one by one, you can also develop the specific areas of your face by repeating specific exercises.  If you spend hours a week exercising your body, why not give your face a few minutes too.What is your opinion on the value of face exercises?</p>
